Hien - Hai Ba Trung, HCMC

"I like to buy my clothes in the fashion shop."

A dress that straddles the day and evening wear line ever so carefully. And with a touch of the de rigueur summer floral thrown in.

A look at her shoes.

Jordan - Saint Laurent, Montreal

Okay, I'll admit it. It's all about the shoes and the slim cut corduroys.

Nice perforated leather sneakers.

Dream Sellers - Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, HCMC (Quick Shots)

These women sell lottery tickets by the roadside. I really (unironically) like how they mix bright colors and patterns.

Jean Francois and Isabel - Near Promenade Ontario, Montreal

Jean Francois: "Her? I don't know. Sorry."
Isabel: "Me."

I like how well they complement each other, both patterned bottoms and accents like her red Wayfarers and red neck scarf.

Matching Converse.

Rosie - Saint Laurent, Montreal

"My sister's wardrobe. Yes, she just left for Vancouver, she left me a bunch of stuff, so a lot of it's her's. And otherwise I just love reading magazines, so I guess it just comes from myself."

Rosie looks great in her bright tights, trench and minidress.

Rosie does a great job of making high boots seem wearable for day. I like how she pairs it with bright tights and over knee socks to extend the line.

Pear - Saint Catherine, Montreal

"It's comfortable, for the most part. I like the way the sweater looks on me and the buttons."

Relaxed dressing through silhouette, yet strong colors make her stand out.

Perforated lace-like burgundy ballet flats.

Skaters - Mission Street, SF (Quick Shots)

Steffan and Brandon - Hayes Valley, SF

Steffan: "80s Miami retiree."
Brandon: "What was clean."

Casual fashion done well. I'd also like to see Brandon's outfit when all his clothes are clean.

A look at their shoes.

Christian - Near Promenade Ontario, Montreal

"I know this seems like a really uninspired answer, but I just don't understand clothing or colors, so I just wear all black."

Christian is wrong, he knows clothes, he understands fit and proportions; that's really 75% of it.

A look at his shoes.

Bart - Near Promenade Ontario, Montreal

"Well I don't, I just dress the way I feel like. I come from France, so I don't know, it's French trendy style."

Another example of how a few elements and proportions can make a casual outfit have a little more style. I really like his militaristic jacket because it has interesting elements, epaulets that are unnecessary, zippers and a slightly different silhouette. I also like how he bunches his tight, but probably too long jeans.

A look at his trainers.

Kevin - Promenade Ontario, Montreal

"And what inspires my style? Can't say... My girlfriend?"

A nice zip-up jacket, an interesting button-down shirt, good hair and simple spare shoes are sometimes all it takes to look unfussily put together.

His spare slip-ons.

Gretchen - Hayes Valley, SF

"I think what inspires my style is my mood mostly, I try to express myself, it's different each day. So right now it's definitely the 70s, sometimes it's flower child, sometimes it's Abba."

Lovely blouse and sitting-on-waist flared jeans. I like how she looks like she could've stepped out of a 1979 Prell ad. Gretchen is the powerhouse behind Moth Love.

A look at her sandals.

Nadia - Promenade Ontario, Montreal

"I guess I like the colors to brighten up my day and the heels make me feel good."

I love it when I see bright colors together, especially without patterns à la color blocking. (Though to be honest, I hardly do it because I mostly wear patterns.)

A look at her white tights and brown boots.

Martino - Le Loi, HCMC

"I believe, perhaps many old films, but it's my own personal style."

Looking a bit like a hunter in an urban jungle, it's the hat (though practical in 90 degr. F weather) that makes Martino a standout on Le Loi.

Classic black brogues (wingtips).

Tasha and Yohann - Near Old Town, Montreal

Tasha: "My style, right now it's not interesting, it's for an interview. But normally I'm inspired by bright colors, all sorts of fun things, vintage clothing, corduroy."
Yohann: "This is a bike courier style."

I love how Tasha looks with her corduroy blazer, pedal pushers (!) and sea foam green knit socks. She's so very cute and he is a good counterbalance looking the part of the typical bike courier.

Spokes and shoes.

Anthony - Near Old Town, Montreal

"That's a good question. I did not think about it before I dressed, well... (I'm not good in English) I like my legs to be (visually) skinny, I like my neck to be enlaced - can I say that? So something comfortable on the top and toning on the legs."

Anthony has on the most incredible one-piece vest/ scarf with a hood, purchased on his last trip to Japan. His layers of black: leather jacket, tunic shirt and jeans are also spot on.

Not to mention the black snakeskin Adidas shell toes.

Tricia - 24th Street, SF

In her favorite color, the lovely and expectant Tricia of bits and bobbins and wardrobe_remix joined me for tea at a cafe in the Mission District. Of course, Tricia has graced fashionist many times before. She embodies what I love most about fashion: individuality, interesting silhouettes, pattern, color and a strong diy aesthetic.

A look at her boots.

Khmer Woman - Cambodia (Quick Shots)

Danielle - Ben Thanh Market, HCMC

"I guess a combination of beach and city."

I love her dress. The gather on the skirt makes it stand out, as does the horizontal striped top portion versus the slanted skirt portion.

Her flip-flops.
