Angie and Jacklyn - Berlin

Angie and Jacklyn: "From magazines, tv and celebrities. Actually though, we have our own style, we try to work with things that fit us."

As well as they dress in Berlin, they usually wear grays and blacks. It was great to see Angie and Jacklyn so colorfully dressed on a dreary overcast day and amongst their fellow Berliners in a predominance of somber colors. I also like how coincidentally the colors in their outfits are echoed by the graffiti behind them. It's totally by chance, but if I didn't take this photo I would presume the photographer planned it.

Cute calf height boots.

Dorothea - Berlin

"I buy a lot of secondhand clothes and mix it with the cheapest H&M clothes. That's it."

I love how Dorothea layers button down on button down and wears a short jean skirt over leggings. She's created an interesting visual interplay and the suggestion of clothing snugness (=sexiness) that isn't necessarily real, but yet visually real. Also, the items are texturally different enough to draw your eyes to each piece, yet the similar color of the leather coat and boots tie it together. A lovely way to layer to be sure.

Boots that thoroughly echo her leather coat, creating a visual symmetry in the outfit.

Katie - Berlin

"Basically anything that clashes. I'm not a fan of one color. I like a lot of UV stuff, but I'm not wearing it today."

Even though each one of us is an individual snowflake, sometimes our clothes aren't. Here is Frankie, across the world in SF, in the same raincoat earlier this year. I like how this coat looks really different on Katie and Frankie. On Katie it is sexy and its length emphasized by her short skirt and tights. Unlike Frankie, Katie shows off the silhouette of the coat to the outside world, perhaps even coordinating her gray tights and green shoes for her cohesive look.

I know her boots are a bit worse for wear, but I really like their bright green color and they have a shape that a Keebler Elf would envy.

Jenny - Berlin

"The street, Berlin and also Nordic fashion. I like Scandinavian fashion."

Besides digging her Dorothy Hamill haircut (which I lurve), Jenny is sporting a pullover jacket with nice pockets. I also like the sportswear easiness of her silhouette, this is a great outfit for a walk around town.

I like the sock connected to the bootie, visual trickery - nice!

Lucy and Suzy - Berlin

Lucy: "I quite like sportswear and things that are comfortable, not over styled. Anything mad inspires her style, she likes crazy colors."
Suzy: "Lucy inspires my style. Things that are too young for me."

When cold weather descends, I have admiration for people who can assemble a cohesive, yet weather appropriate outfit. Here Lucy and Suzy (visiting Berlin from Britain) wear jeans that have patterns on them (lovely detail) with a short pea coat (Lucy) and a long anorak (Suzy). Though (most likely) unintentional, I like the visual play of short-tall, long-short, metallic-opaque that they embody.

A look at Lucy's Converse and Suzy's metallic trainers.

Metal Tie - Berlin Wall (Quick Shots)

I'm big into details (which means, I'm big into little things - try it, it works out). So when we were examining what is left of the Berlin Wall, I spotted this gentleman and through a combo of sign language, plus clearly enunciated English, expressed my admiration for this risky fashion move of metal tie in an otherwise sedate outfit. Those who make risky fashion moves, such as this, impress me greatly.

Men know how to wear clothes that fit better here.

Julia - Berlin

"My inspiration for style? Don't know. Maybe movies."

I love how she echoes the pink of her tights with the pink of her scarf. I'm really interested (read: preoccupied) in this relaxed silhouette with splashes of color for fall and winter this year. I find it refreshing, without being overly rigid in execution.

Lovely boots with quilted detail.

Biggi and Trang - Berlin

Biggi: "I don't know."
Trang: "It's hard to say in English. I just dress myself like the way I feel, it depends on my mood."

Fellow Viet Kieu (they identified themselves as such when they looked at my business card). Good to know they're being fabulous for our peeps.

Yasmena - Berlin

"Well at the moment dark wave, punk, 80s weirdness. Yeah."

Great hair and an attitude that shines through. I love her layering of different black elements and frankly, the fact that it looks so very slouchy.

This clutch sealed the deal on if I would approach her or not, it's the size of a small messenger bag, but retains the sexiness of a clutch. (Who knew a practical clutch existed? Covet!)

A look at her practical shoes, sexy and practical don't usually go together, but Yasmena does it extremely well.

Weibke - Berlin

"By myself. I wear whatever I want."

Love the purple cowl collar poking out and the shock of red hair. The play of proportions is visually interesting.

White boots to complete the look.

Swanee - Berlin

Head to toe wowness. I am constantly impressed by those who go all the way when they dress.

I love the argyle socks and the wingtips.

Irene - Hayes Valley, SF

"I just love clothes."

This is Irene of Chillin' Productions. I love her maxi dress and her platforms here. I've also taken a photo of her daughter Isabella before, I'm not gonna say style is genetic, but...

A look at her platforms.

Andrea - Civic Center, SF

"Well I'm creating my style with a combination of vintage and new clothes."

Andrea is rockin' an early 90s vibe with her batwings sleeve shirt, worn with a straw bowler hat and a simple black skirt.

A look at her pumps.

Jessica - Mint Plaza, SF

There is something great about people who have fun in front of a camera when asked to pose. I love how her dress and how well she captivates those who see her. Not surprisingly, Jessica is a dancer.

If you recognize Jessica it's because she's had fun posing for my camera before.

A look at her favorite boots.

Katy - Valencia Street, SF

"Just mixing urban with something natural."

Love her plaid long coat over the full white underskirt. A good look for fall, in the equestrian way.

A look at her hem and those boots.

Brandon - Folsom Street, SF (Quick Shots)

Caught Brandon of the Element Lounge after an audition. Look at those shoes and how they coordinate with the tie.

Cydney - 8th Street, SF

"This outfit? It was on my floor. Ah Erin Wasson, Kate Moss, but I don't know I like Brigitte Bardot a lot."

I like her baggy top, small jean jacket silhouette paired with the sea green jeans. She's broadcasting an updated grunge look (or what I sometimes call hobo look) that I'm digging.

Best looking version of flip-flops I've ever seen.
