David - Union Square, SF

davidlevis - san francisco street fashion style
"Growing up I loved watching I Love Lucy, and I think I like the '50s. So I [frequently] wear a bowler hat and sometimes wear a top hat. I like to clash with different styles of when I was growing up, just to make it it my own unique style. Like, wherever I go I have something from where I've been."

Not just the bowler hat, but the checked button down and the scarf and ribbon (resulting in multi-pattern mixing) caught my eye. The bright colors remind me a bit, of the people in Bolivia and Peru who wear bowlers with their bright native dress (see below). Good job David, not many guys go out on a limb, glad you did.

Wanda and Elizabeth - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

Wanda: "I'm inspired by rainbow and anywhere you can get two dresses for fifteen dollars."
Elizabeth: "Just a beautiful day ad enjoying the sun."

The juxtaposition of busy and spare.

Jonathan and Viva - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

jonathanviva - alameda street fashion style
Jonathan: "My Dad when he was my age."
Viva: "I love bright colors and I like dresses with pockets."

The vintage floral dress, the plaid western shirt with the classic wife beater, the trucker cap - they're our modern day American Gothic.

Her cute oxfords only, because, well... you know why.

Alicia and Francesca - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

aliciafrancesca - alameda street style fashion
Alicia: "Well I buy my clothes from friends, from etsy. I like to but things that are used, recycled. And I like the fit and the detailing and the construction that goes into older things."
Francesca: "I would say the 1960s, but typically 30s cotton print, chiffon, just nice pretty details. Ladylike details."

I've heard vintage detractors hold the stance that looks can be dated, but I think that is why these lovely ladies in their pretty knee-length frocks look modern and timeless. Is it 2010 or 1965 or 1990? Do tailored clothes ever go out of style? (I hope not.)

Lovely vintage shoes (or at least stylized) go great with their dresses.

Leslie - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

leslieaf - alameda street fashion style
"My Grandma and anything early 60s."

This is an amazing 60s lacy-gauze "table cloth" dress. Also, super cute mussed up hair and large frameless sunglasses.

Neyely - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

neyely - alameda street fashion style
"I like to be comfortable."

I love her graphic tank tucked into this mustard color skirt and her hair with the scrappy headband.

Cute shoes that are a mash up of t-strap maryjanes and ballet flats.

Andie - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

ribbed - alameda street style fashion
"i guess retro and... I'd say retro, sort of sweet and kind of, fun."

I like how she's wearing a sweatshirt with a popular in the '90s rib knit. Here it is modern and looks almost schoolgirl like with her skirt and gray patterned tights.

Rose - Grove Street, SF

rosegrove - san francisco street fashion style
"Everything from books to movies to other people in my life, music. All of it."

I like the embroidered blouse that matches both the sweater (thread/yarn color) and the fabric of the shorts. Here too, much like Chloe, she wears a tan/camel cardigan.

Chloe - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

chloeaf - alameda street fashion style
"I would probably say my sister and my Mom."

Fall's camel color scheme comes in early in the form of a cardigan that doubles as the second layer of a dress over a t-shirt dress.

Bree - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

breeaf - alameda street fashion style
"I say what I find. You know you just come across things and put them together."

There is something very sweet and folkloric about her kerchief covered head and applique detail on her skirt. She's wearing a modern outfit with storied peasant style connotations.

Krissa - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

krissa - alameda street fashion style
"My mood in the morning."

Krissa is from Iceland and I have to say that the few Icelandic people I've met are awesome fashionists. Krissa is no different, I like how she mixes the sporty-ness of Nikes with a belted shirtdress and jazzes it all up with bright red tights. Her fashion fu is immense.

Renee - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

afrenee - alameda street fashion style
"Audrey Hepburn, my Mom, and... Probably those two."

There is a sweet preppy sexiness to this outfit that isn't over the top and yet totally appropriate for this particular day's weather and the age of the wearer (late teens, early 20s). Cute top, cute shorts, and everything fits perfectly.
afrenee_closeup - alameda street fashion style

Loafers that are Tod's-esque.

Sonja - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

afsonia - alameda street style fashion
"Well I like this shirt because I really like sheer shirts and layering things underneath them. What do I see for fall? Longer skirts. I really like Rodarte, I guess. I got this nice beaded sweater earlier, so good quality sweaters and fur collars."

Sonja is quickly becoming one of my local style heroes. Who else can elevate well-worn shoes, a blouse, and skirt to this level of fashionable nonchalance?
afsonia_closeup - alameda street style fashion

Great herringbone tights with her beat-up Keds.

Leah - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

leah - alameda street fashion style
"Right now, it's just pulling out anything that is sort of western-y out of my closet. And comfort."

I'm not sure how Leah got to the Flea Market, but if she arrived on say, a motorcycle, she'd be dressed perfectly (except for the part where her dress might fly up). Those boots, those wire frame aviator sunglasses, and that cute multi-colored leather and suede jacket are p-e-r-f-e-c-t biker chic.

Erin - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

frog - san francisco street fashion style
"I don't know. What fits. What looks good on my body and I love prints. Anything that is a funky print and fits me well, I wear. No matter what style"

Modern dress in a modern fabric and design (check out those shoulder cut-outs) with a very 50s/60s silhouette and fit.
