Grace and Sally - 18th Street, SF

gracesally
Grace: "My mood in the morning and good clothes in thrift shops."
Sally: "Thrift stores, we've gone a lot since we've been here. And each others' taste."

I love their late 80s/early 90s aesthetic of small floral prints, layers, grey/heather tights, and bleached out denim. They're an extremely cute duo.

"My Grandmother, I guess."

An awesome print on a cute skirt. Also love the locket and shoes.

A closer look at that print and check out the pleats at the waistband. So lovely!

"The mid-90s."

Yep, grunge is back, albeit better fitting. (As if there was any doubt.)

Heather and Alma - 18th Street, SF

heatheralma
Heather: "What inspires me is just everything. I get a lot of inspiration from nature, animals, just being on the street, color, texture, just everything."
Alma: "And I get inspired by anything, anything visual, animals, taxidermy..."

Love that these ladies love their hair accessories. Also, awesome charm necklaces.

Sarah - 18th Street, SF

sarah8
Sarah is wearing a lovely (and flattering) 40s-esque print dress. The dress along with the military-esque anorak and cowboy boots hint at a sartorial inspiration of post WWII glamor.

A neighbor, Sarah is definitely one of those people I'm constantly awed by when I spot her.

Caroline - 18th Street, SF

caroline18
"I would say Grandmas, old people in general. They always have the best style."

I like her gray shift, her beret (which, I'm usually on the fence about, but she wears so well) and her fantastic vintage frames in burgundy.

Simon - Valencia Street, SF

simon
"It's a couple of things. I think, first of all, my age probably. I think I dress more classy, not too young anymore, so in that frame... My grandparents probably inspire my style, weirdly enough. Not so much, I don't read fashion magazines or anything. I don't know, I just like classy things."

So, what shall we conclude about the similarity of dress between Simon and Nick? Is it a zeitgeist we're observing? Is this a trend? Or are there just an excess of pea coats floating around vintage and second hand stores in the Mission? Whatever it is, I'm glad to peer at pea coated individuals this fall and winter.

Domonique - Valencia Street, SF

dominique3

Domonique is a fierce force to be reckoned with. I think it was 10:30am when I ran into her and was impressed with the fact she was wearing faux leopard print so early in the day. (I was wearing taffeta.)

Domonique will be showing her designer wares at the next Chillin' Productions Event. Check it out on December 5th if you're in SF.

Shane - 18th Street, SF

shane2
"I guess right now: Zimbabwe militia, like an Elizabethan King, and the Black Panthers."

I thought it might seem I was withholding if I just wrote *wow* under Shane's photo. But that's exactly how I feel about his accessory prowess (see below). I'm impressed with his ability to curate an outfit that shouts out an idea, an idea of the Serenghetti and the jungle that is the street of the Mission District.

I really want this leather bag, it's the perfect size and it looks like it can withstand a lot of abuse.
shane2_detail2

I love how he piles on bracelets and pays attention to details like a fantastic belt and contrasting buckles for his boots.
shane2_detail

These boots are fantastic. If you are male, get some now. I'm not saying I'd sleep with you, but I'd definitely let you buy me a drink if you were wearing these.

Libby - Valencia Street, SF

libbyn3
Libby has been on fashionist a handful of times.

She has a way of dressing that makes me re-evaluate what I'm wearing when I run into her because she always looks perfectly suited to whatever her current task calls for. Right here, she's on the way to work at a coffee shop. You see what I mean right? That oversize white shirt with those jeans? That robust one earring to add bling? She's killing it.

Also? Tapestry print flats. So cute.

Today's theme is, pretty obviously, denim.

Lorraine - McAllister Street, SF

ltuchfeld
Lorraine has been fashionist quite a few times.

She's definitely one of my SF fashion inspirations. She mixes vintage and High Street fashion, playing with proportions, color and accessories in a way that I find whimsical and original. Notice her shell earrings in contrast with her plaid jacket? The contrast of the idea of lumberjacks and the beach - genius.

Sarah - 18th Street, SF

sarahhan
"Comfort inspires most of my style these days. I basically live in jeans and Earth shoes. Gotta love therapeutic footwear."

I love her sweet green and blue sweater with the peephole and tie. I like how she's carrying a brown tooled leather bag and how her leather jacket fits her small. Denim is the in-between season go-to and Sarah does a good job of wearing interesting elements with her jeans.

Eugene - 18th Street, SF

eugene
"What inspires day-to-day? Depending on how I feel, depending on how relaxed or comfortable I am. And it changes depending on how I feel, depending on the weather; if I feel like being lazy or if I feel like dressing up."

It's the bold striped shirt, the fingerless gloves, the cuffed jeans with the perfect cut/perfect indigo wash and those brown shoes with their brown soles. He made me think "wow". You too, huh? Not surprising, Eugene's a fashion blogger who also attends Pasadena's flea markets. (Also, related: designers seem to go to Pasadena's flea markets.)
