Carolin - Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz

pinksc - santa cruz street fashion style
"I'm mostly inspired by classic Hollywood films and 80's TV series, so mostly from the media. And things I see in fashion magazines, but I always try to combine it in a different way because I'm not one to be a total fashion victim or something like that. Just something new."

Carolin's amazing 30's-esque sweater (take a gander at those sleeves) was purchased at Held Over in the Haight (San Francisco). She fantastically accessorizes with a black ribbon as a belt, pulled back hair, and slouchy boots.

Toshiko - Front Street, Santa Cruz

tsc - santa cruz street fashion style
"I like to mix vintage with modern stuff."

How sweet is that pink lace dress? (Very.) And it looks wonderful with her Mongolian-esque shearling edged knit coat. Texture and material is key here. Toshiko does a great job of mixing modern and vintage, putting it all together with some great Oxfords.

The aforementioned great Oxfords.

Rita - Valencia Street, SF

rita1 - san francisco street fashion style
"This outfit is inspired by a gothic Stevie Nicks."

I love that although Rita is wearing black, she wears different textures (lace, cotton, denim, wool) and accessorizes with rings, that great pendant, and a hat - adding depth to her outfit.

Katherine - Valencia Street, SF

madras - san francisco street fashion style
"I like the idea of a sexy, but slouchy, masculine look. Like to couple sexy with masculine."

I like the bright blue of her madras print, echoed in her skirt and how everything looks a bit windblown, but tied together with the similar toned olive green anorak and gray tights.
madras_closeup - san francisco street fashion style

Really great wooden heeled lace-up booties, perfectly paired with gray tights.

John - 18th Street, SF (Barely Legal Microhood)

johnsvn - san francisco street fashion style
"Animal Business! No. Cleaning up a little bit, but staying funky."

The scarf, glasses, and not-to-commonly-worn brown denim lend an element of stylish just a cut above.
johnsvn_closeup - san francisco street fashion style

Chrome's version of the classic Chuck Taylor. I like how it's stripped down and reminds me of both Chuck Taylor's and Pro-Keds (I think Chrome is referencing C.T.'s because they are the more "famous" shoe, but if they are harkening to PKs, then my hat is off to them.)

Marcelle - Mission Street, SF

marcelle - san francisco street fashion style
"Well I'm from South African and I was in the mood to put on fur today. Yeah, it's fake, but it's leopard print and I'm missing home and was in the mood to put it on today."

Great tousled hair and a very now faux leopard fur coat.
marcelle_closeup - san francisco street fashion style

Great suede booties. Marcelle insists that they're resistant to spills, which make them perfect for her bartending gig.

Maria - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

afmaria- alameda street fashion style
"Quilts and preschoolers."

I love her babydoll style dress with the quilt squares and her layers of differing fabric. She also has fantastic hair (and a great haircut too).

A look at her paper bag style booties. She said they were picked up at a second hand shop.

Chelsea - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

mauve - alameda street fashion style*

This gorgeous mauve outfit has a beautiful tie collar sweater and a cute plaid woolen skirt. She looks warm, comfortable, and fashionably referencing the 1930s and the 1970s.

I made an error with my recording device when attempting to record this lovely lady's name and fashion inspiration. Sorry, if anyone knows her, please point her this way. Thanks!

Erica - Southwest 9th Avenue, Portland

ericapdx - portland street fashion style
"I guess my own neuroses."

I love this comfy looking circle sweater (look no corners to round). A super casual outfit, but elevated (in style) because of the aforementioned sweater and her great necklace with its twist and turns in chain.
ericapdx_closeup - portland street fashion style

These boots with the hook and eye laces (again) are fantastic looking for every day.

Colin and Shea - Pioneer Square, Portland

colinshea - portland street fashion style
Colin: "Serge Gainsbourg."
Shea: "The weather because it's cold."

I love that they look preppy and are of an age when that seems rare. I especially like his tie and leather bag and all her red accents (especially the socks against her brown leather boots).

A look a their shoes. Check out her hook and eye accents for her boots' laces.

Erica and Drew - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

Erica: "Probably vintage. 1940s sometimes to the 1960s, I guess."
Drew: "Vintage things. Comfort. Simplicity."

I like how their outfits could be straight out of a "Fun with Dick and Jane" book circa 1960. There is a preciseness to how they're adorned and this is reaffirmed in the fact that they are attired to complement each other. (Gosh, I really love when I can take pictures of pairs.)

A look at her green Hunter rain boots and his spare blue canvas shoes (what I called tennies growing up).

Annie - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

afannie - alameda street fashion style
"I guess, just the Victorian era and Christmas."

I like the juxtaposition of small (straw hat), tight (black leather jacket) and voluminous (skirt) in one outfit. The accents of red shoes and red plaid don't hurt either. Nor does the mix of materials: straw, leather, wool. So many good things about this outfit.
afannie_closeup - alameda street fashion style

Well-worn, but still bright, red booties.

Aubrey and Alexandra - SW Morrison, Portland

roseville - portland street fashion style
Aubrey: "Mainly I just like the mixture of bright colors and the gray and the silky tights."
Alexandra: "I like layers and oversize things. Paired with, I don't know a juxtaposition of things and layers."

I like the weight of the scarves around their necks and how this highlights their faces. Also, Alexandra is wearing a fantastic hood/scarf deal. These lovely ladies are visiting from Roseville, CA. They also actually pointed me towards the Portland Design Collective (thanks ladies!).

Megan - SW Morrison, Portland

puffpdx - portland street fashion style
"Actually I have no idea how I put stuff together. I just see something I like and I get it."

Totally original items (like her boots) and unexpected silhouettes (like her almost cropped puffy jacket) excite the eyes every single time. Also, how cute is her bowl haircut? (Very, very cute.)

Momoca - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

momoca5 - alameda flea market street fashion style
"The inspiration for this outfit is, to be warm."

I always love running into the well appointed Tomoko (a.k.a. Momoca), she gets it absolutely right from head-to-toe, every single time. This frequently chapeau-ed lady is now concentrating on designing hats (she shuttered her shop in June). You can check out her designs on her blog and can buy the covetable creations at Shotwell's and Wonderland in SF. And to remind you of how she's graced Fashionist in the past.

Freestanding knit anklets add pizazz to her shoes.

Tacee - SW Morrison, Portland

taceepdx - portland street fashion style
"My friends inspire my style, especially Claire."

Clever silhouette care of the double-breasted coat worn over her dress. I love these floral leggings/tights that somehow remind me of a nebula print I saw once. Also, I love her and Claire's hood, scarf combo. It makes an outfit that could be everyday into one fit for fairy tales.
