Antonio and Pugiella - Valencia Street, SF

Pugiella: "Antonio, he just inspires me."
Antonio: "I saw it in a store (thrift store) and thought it was funny."

I stopped them because I was blown away by Antonio's sweater knit outfit. I like that they both were having fun with fashion. (See her charms.)

Alex and Tori - Market Street, SF

Alex: "Actually it's interesting, my outfit is uniquely...
[Tori: "Oh god."] I know I have to tell a story. I broke out my black 501s which I haven't worn in forever, which was kind of inspired by San Francisco, I don't live here, so it was time for me to break it out. This is just an ancient jacket that is ill-fitting that was my father's and I wore it because it was too warm for my heavy coat and kind of combined that with my ridiculous other clothing and green shoes which I haven't worn in along time and which I love. That's as good as I can do. This is my sister and she'll explain to you her outfit."
Tori: "I'm inspired by film and color."

I like his blue polo shirt worn under his small blazer and his matching beanie. I also like her large animal pendant and her small ski jacket.

A look at those aforementioned green trainers.

Susan and Konane - Valencia Street, SF

Susan: "In life and in fashion and everything else, I'd just say color. I love color. Anything bright."
Konane: "As far as fashion - whatever is around me. My father grew up with this style and I've just adopted it."

I like their 70s and 80s styling and their incorporation of bright colors. I think they both look great, head to toe.

Their shoes.

Terry - Market Street, SF

"This outfit is inspired by.... What day is it? It's inspired by Wednesday. It's a Wednesday outfit. I don't know what inspires my style. Maybe the street, I guess. I would say a little bit of music, a little bit of my friends."

I like his hair and how he is wearing different, but tonally similar berry colors. I'm really enjoying the fact that men in SF seem to be wearing color.

A look at his kicks.

Kara - Linden Place, SF

"Old and new, I suppose."

I love her haircut and the proportions on her jacket. She exuded a tough yet stylish vibe with her rough cut-offs; notice the pockets on the jeans and the sequins on her t-shirt graphic.

Silver Huarache sandals.

Rachel - Linden Place, SF

"This outfit is actually inspired by Elizabeth Taylor at the beginning of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Because I watched that recently and she was wearing a similar outfit."

I really love the idea of dressing like characters from movies, but I didn't know the visual reference when I spotted her. I like how her shoes stood out on a gray morning and how her trench coat fit so well and her side pleated skirt poked out from underneath her trench.

Her red pumps.

A peek at that referenced outfit.

Mei - Hayes Street, SF

"What inspires me is probably artists and traveling."

I really like her kelly green coat. It's quite striking on a typical gloomy San Francisco day. (To all non-San Franciscans, yes it is very cold now and warrants wearing a coat.)

Katerina - 2nd Street, SF

"I buy 50% vintage or used because I'm trying to work towards conservation. And I think what's tried and true is best."

I noticed her jeans first, they're cut to sit on the waist (gasp), which looks different and fresh given that jeans are usually worn low. Worn with the red/white striped shirt I felt like she was channeling 40s-era proportions.

I also like her earrings that look like lucite (but aren't she informed me) and her glasses that seemingly match. I don't think she did this deliberately, but I really like the mix and match of patterns with her graphic bag (against her striped shirt).

Parisa - 16th Street, SF

"Whatever is cutting edge and new and extreme and weird. Anything that is provocative really."

I really like her mix and match of patterns. For me the cardigan pulls it together visually.

Nathen and Carly - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA

Nathen: "Domini. Our friend who designed the clothes."
Carly: "Domini."

I like his plaid pants and her tattered skirt.

Bruno and Viviana - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA

Bruno: "I was feeling like checkered clothes today."
Viviana: "I don't know, what is comfortable (inspires my style)."

I really like his plaid pants and though the fedora is becoming a wide reaching trend, I think he did a good job using it to accessorize. I also like her green print top and think their blue-green tops look great hanging out together.

A look at their matching Converse.

Chris and Lisa - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA

Chris: "History and fashion."
Lisa: "We're part of the Greater Bay Area Costumer's Guild - dot org."

They just made the hats at the Maker Faire, I don't think it was part of their outfits when they left their house. This is reaffirmed by the fact that Lisa couldn't keep the hat from falling off. I stopped them because I like Lisa's vintage 1940s dress and how they (perhaps unconsciously) match (green and black).

I also really like Lisa's t-strap Mary Jane pumps.

Purple and Blue - Fort Mason, SF (Quick Shots)

I really like the simple ladylike nature of her outfit and how the purple blouse with the blue shoes and pedal pushers look effortless, yet stylish.

A closer look at those blue patent flats.

Danese - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA (Quick Shots)

I really like Danese's hat - I'm not a hat wearer, but if I were I'd love to have a hat just like this.

Bill - Hayes Street, SF

"It's old skool, like classic hip hop style. Got Adidas so it fits in with the running theme. I'm from NY, so I'm trying to represent Queens, Brooklyn kind of shit."

The New Balance trainers made me laugh. Otherwise he promised me he was 100% legit, that he owned those gold chains, but didn't wear them often. And his accent told me he was from Queens. I'm still fascinated with the Adidas track suit - I totally admit it - I grew up in an era when owning a track suit meant something.

Bill did ham it up for me though.

Natalie - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA

"My style is inspired by Care Bears and the 1950s housewife. And wanting to be a little bit indecent and still wanting to be perceived as conservative."

Her dress, of its own accord, is quite lovely. I also like the colors and kitschy-ness she incorporates into her outfit, an apron and a netted hat? - Wow. Coincidentally, Natalie is similarly attired to Nina and Fauxnique, who we spotted at Easter in Dolores Park.

A look at her t-strap Mary Janes.

Ari - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA

"Mostly color and random different things that I find."

I like that Ari looks like a modern day Punky Brewster. She's young and fashion fearless, I imagine she'll be quite a fashionista in the future.

She looks so compelling in her close-up.

Naomi - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA

"Urban warrior. A lot of Asian style influences. I'm a martial artist, so Karate definitely factors into it."

I really like her boots/gym sock combo and her short hair.

A closer look at those boots.

Renee - Maker Faire, San Mateo, CA

"Poverty inspires my style. Vintage clothing, yeah."

It takes a special fashionist to take clothes from a swap bin and put together an outfit. This is what Renee has done, I love the small detail embroidered on her blouse and how she paired it with the tartan jacket. She then cinched it all with a belt. Which just goes to show what accessories can do for a literally "thrown together" outfit.
