Jemma - 18th Street, SF

"I think what inspires me for this outfit is probably the 70s, I like 70s colors. I like neutrals, stuff like that. I like random stuff."

I like how you can look at different aspects of her outfit and see the care she put into selecting elements of her look. Jemma than pulled it all together with boots and a sweater vest.

For example, the bow in her hair and her plastic earrings.

A look at those boots.

Kylea - Folsom Street, SF

"Well it originally started with Annie Hall and then it kind of morphed into Annie Hall meets girl on a motorcycle type Marianne Faithfull-esque look."

I admire Kylea for bringing out the big guns when she dresses. I like how her button down shirt looks under her cardigan and leather jacket and the proportion of her dark flared jeans. She definitely has a knack for layering, whomever her fashion inspiration is. That means a lot in this damp weather town.

A look at her shoes and her upturned cuffs.

Nicole and Josh - 18th Street, SF

Nicole: "I guess I'm inspired a lot by color and what makes me feel happy."
Josh: "Kind of mid-60s vintage."

Nicole has been on fashionist before. I like her pairing a blue dress with a crochet sweater top, it breaks up the line, creating the illusion of a skirt, blouse silhouette, especially with the thin belt. Josh is sporting the slim-fit western shirt, which is hard to go wrong with when you're a slender guy.

Carley - Dolores Park, SF (Quick Shots)

Lovely dress worn with a fitting leather jacket (layered with a hoodie), a great way to bring summer floral patterns into the fall wardrobe.

Rob - Dolores Park, SF (Quick Shots)

Lovely bicycle patch on sweater for an element of customization. Also! Pants rolled up to reveal knee-high gym socks, à la chola wear. I am frequently charmed by people who add extra personal elements to their outfits.

Kârin - 18th Street, SF (Quick Shots)

I love her simple shirt dress in seafoam green worn with orthopedic nurse shoes. She looks so demure while eating her lunch.

Food Sampler - 18th Street, SF (Quick Shots)

Great haircut, nice buttons on her blue coat. I didn't want to disrupt her work, so asked if I could take a quick photo.

Dave - Haight Street, SF

"I don't know. Comfort."

I like his very comfy Indiana Jone's-esque jacket and his bedhead. I have long suspected that there are people who just roll out of bed and slip on loafers(!) without socks, skinny jeans, a leather jacket with a faux fur collar and throw their camera over their shoulder; I've just never seen one in the wild before.

Lorraine - Market Street, SF

Perhaps it is fitting that my 1000th post be the one where Lorraine, a fashionist favorite, is featured.

Here she continues to inspire us with her corduroy jacket, patterned Cheap Mondays jeans, patterned scarf tied jauntily around her neck and booties.

A close-up of those booties and the pattern on those jeans.

Jenny - Dolores Park, SF

"I'm on vacation and I really like this color."

I guess I was on the look-out for bold jewel tones. I think that wearing a bold color without patterns is great because it really draws attention to your shape and makes you stand out without looking overly fussy, especially when wearing vintage.

A look at her jeweled sandals with no heels. I love Jenny's outfit.

Rebecca - Dolores Park, SF

"Just to be comfortable and myself, I guess."

Love the 70s poly dress worn with a faux pearl necklace. She looked perfect for the park on possibly one of our last warm days.

Her simple sandals peeking out from underneath her dress.

Jeffrey and Ava - Dolores Street, SF (Quick Shots)

Let me count the ways...

Jeffrey and Ava were on their way to attend to some urgent business, so I was only able to get these quick shots before they had to leave, but wow. Wow! Sometimes I wear leather vintage skirts, but I can learn a lot from Ava on self styling.

Cole - 18th Street, SF

"What inspires my style is everything from vintage stuff to current trends. I love, you know, kind of faggy gay stuff, big fan of that. I pay a lot of attention to what folks wear. Lately, I've been kind of feeling that going into Grandpa's closet look. Revisiting what Grandpa used to wear, that's kind of the look I'm working; boat shoes and cardigan."

I'm all about how he easily layered these items in a way that is interesting, but not technically typical. Graphic tee, plaid shirt and super soft gray cardigan? With an emphasis on graphic tee and the plaid shirt pulled back. So - of course! - yet not done enough. Well-played (in an understated way) sir!

Oh, boat shoes, you're the modern day male moccasin (as far as reach among a certain set).

Victoria - Mission Street, SF

If Victoria looks familiar it is because she was part of my Mothers' Day posts.

I like her colorful dress under the neutral gray of her cardigan. At the time of morning I shot her, I was being passed by women wearing all black and she looked so sunny next to them that I had to stop her.

A look at her motorcycle boots, lending a masculine touch to her feminine outfit.

Maria - South Van Ness Avenue, SF

"Really? You think I'm dressed well?"

Yes, Maria, I do. I love the extra element of zing with her sparkly green sweater under her black, gray, and white suit. Also, check out the feathers on her wool hat. This was in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, making me suspect Maria is a 24/7 snazzy dresser.

Phillip - 18th Street, SF

"Nothing in particular, but everything in general."

Where to start? Awesome color coordination and that tie, wore so well, with the short front and long back. How about that belt buckle? A Gucci man to be sure. We haven't even started on how very confident Phillip is to wear such bold pants and the attitude needed to make pants like that look like they are just one aspect of an interesting ensemble. This man has so much style, I can't believe we all fit on the sidewalk at once.

I think Philip might've stopped for me because my bag matches his shoes.

Shane - Grant Avenue, SF

"Kind of a more post industrial mixed with kind of punkish, but I don't know, more fashionable than that."

The way Shane dresses reminds me of how the men dress in Berlin. Slim fit clothing, with everything clean and understated.

Check out the zipper detail on his pocket.

A look at his shoes.

Jennifer - Mission Street, SF

"I'd just say the color and a mish mash of stuff."

I like her bright coat and her solid color dress. The dress could be overwhelming if it was in a pattern or a brighter color, but the blue makes the polyester and lace look subtle in the context of the bright green of the coat.

Ankle straps and peep toes make for a celebration of a warm day.

Grace - Alameda Flea Market, Alameda

"Old ladies and lack of taste."

Grace was genuinely puzzled that I wanted to take her photo. I like the fact that she looks a bit like she could be the subject of a Dorothea Lange pictorial, especially since we're heading toward a depression now.

Dusty booties.
