Quan - Stockton Street, SF

quan

So much good going on. Short pants, vest that contrasts with his jacket - adding a rogue quality to the outfit, the scarf that is layered and into the vest, in place of a tie. Oh Quan, if I was a dude, I'd dress like you.

Fiona and Jillian - Alameda Flea Market, SF

fionajillian
Fiona: "What inspires my style? Maybe Audrey Hepburn does. She inspires my hair maybe. 60s simplicity. But I'm cool, casual, chic today."
Jillian: "Comfort, I guess. And unique details."

I love, love their coincidental monochromatic dressing. This is an especially fetching pregnancy look for Jillian, who pulls off the difficulty of dressing well when you're really pregnant.

Ryan - 18th Street, SF

ryangs

Ryan is one of the great people behind the Good Shop, a vintage shop in the Mission District. Here he was distressed denim in a way that I like, deliberate, not by happenstance, yet the rips and tears look like they were acquired through actual wear and tear, not through a machine process. I'm loving the form and silhouette of this jacket and his layered scarves.

Dino - Bancroft Way, Berkeley

dinob
"My style is a lot of, I guess, what I feel is right at the moment. I don't like thinking about what I'm wearing. I do drag, so most of the time, it's always a show. And sometimes when I'm in boy drag, I just pick up what is nice and clean in my closet."

I love his large tulle broach. Dino makes amazing accessories for himself, like this broach and his neck collar. His accessories are especially highlighted with his mostly black outfit.

"I just try to take different elements from different time periods. And watching people, in general, influences my style."

Super cute large red sunglasses with a lovely floral 70s print dress and small cardigan.

Lulu - Bancroft Way, Berkeley

lulub
"I'm really into military looks and traditionally masculine shapes. Especially juxtaposed against things that are traditionally super feminine and sexy like painted fingernails and fishnet stockings."

Love the pintucks and feminine cut of this dress in an almost militaristic fabric. Lulu is doing a great version of the military look forecasted for FW10.

These heeled oxfords are great. I especially like the weathered toe.

Arielle - Mission Street, SF

arielle
"Lately I've been going for the, I guess, androgynous side of it. I really enjoy dressing like a boy, sometimes with feminine touch. I enjoy the 1940s style as well as the 1930s, which you know was the time of the introduction of the woman's suit and all that stuff."

Arielle is one of those great gems that just wears amazing outfits. When I spotted her it was for the big expressive bow and then her hat and then her haircut and then, then... Inspiration is a lovely thing. I'm glad Arielle threw some my way.

Look at these leather and mesh shoes. They're vintage and create this very interesting ribbon effect. Go Arielle!

Seika and Jordan - Bancroft Way, Berkeley

seikajordan

I'm having wonderful flashbacks about the character Monique from Better Off Dead. Doesn't Seika look like she might be getting inspiration from Monique? I think Jordan is wearing a Beirendonck sweater or at least a Beirendonck inspired sweater, which works wonderfully with his otherwise preppy understated outfit.

"I'm inspired by 1930s film actresses and style from the 1930s, pretty much."

She wears the Rodarte for Target dress well.

Pilar graciously let me take her picture even though she inadvertently stepped into mud when she got off the ferry.
