T****, Colleen, and S**** - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

3
T****, Colleen and S****: [collectively] "I don't know."

I love how they use layering, mixing of fabric textures and colors to create these functional, but lovely outfits. Also the fact that these three stylish ladies are hanging out together is great eye candy for fashionist.

Great boots and booties in three different colors.

Jason and Andrea - Maker Faire, San Mateo

jasonandrea
Jason: "Victorian mad scientist, it's an evolving costume."
Andrea: "Victorian-style and the era and the creativity, freedom and general art."

I didn't take many photos at Maker Faire, but wanted to take at least one of steam punks who looked like they put a bit of effort in. Jason and Andrea were exactly what I was looking for. Also! How adorable is her small hat?

A look at their shoes. I really like her half fabric/half leather boots.

Vanessa - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

"Today, I just wanted to put on as many things as possible, I think. I got it (this sweater) in Vegas. I was hoping someone died in it in Vegas. Like a grandma, I don't know."

I like her orange sweater and how she has a cohesive yet rumpled look. I'm gonna say that cut-off denim shorts are hard to pull off since Arrested Development's coverage of Tobias' never-nude syndrome. She does a great job of it though.

Isaac - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

"I play a guitar made out of a shovel so that inspires it. Scrap metal and sunset highways at dawn. (That doesn't exist.)"

I understand he looks a little Dexys Midnight Runners, I still like his accessories (check out the key charm) and how his overalls look both functional and deliberate. Also, with the beater he's eliminated the bulk that sometimes happens to overalls.

Clifford - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

"I'm definitely inspired by Victorian/Edward -era. But I also love by 40s, 50s, bocce, Italian kind of... But I'm also interested in DIY, fabricating clothes out of ties, bits and pieces, that's my main..."

I think we're seeing Clifford's bocce inspiration in this particular outfit. He looks like he's from another era, when facial hair was more liberal and a short-sleeved button down shirt was only for weekends.

A look at his though referential, thoroughly modern shoes.

Today's theme is men and their facial hair.

Mike - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

"Adventure and reusing old things."

Reflective cop sunglasses and a pink striped vintage top spiced up by a diy silkscreen, what more could you ask for?

Distressed shoes with a middle seam hiding in the grass.

Velvet - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

"Probably anything that's ornate and interesting. Renaissance-style with a lot of embellishing."

Velvet made her outfit, she a designer and can be found blogging and selling her creations at Velvet Valentine.

Okay, it's the necklace made of fabric beads that really caught my eye, I love this kind of diy addition to clothing.

A rosette on her skirt.

Really killer "paper bag" ankle boots.

Claire - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

"I just wanted something, green, summery, and fun. And glittery, I don't know, I like it."

Very cute dress and accessories. I like how she puts different patterns, textures and colors together.

Super cool bee earrings.

Her bag, with the fold-over top.

Dana and Olivia - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

Dana: "I guess I just kind of go for what I feel like I like. These, I got to get at a vintage store my sister happens to work at. I guess, I'm lucky in that way."
Olivia: "Cheap and comfortable."

I'm down with pretty colorful dresses that nip in at the real waistline. Feels refreshing in a sea of babydolls.

A look at their shoes. I'm not usually a fan of Crocs, but I sort of like this sling back version, that is just a tiny bit more dainty than the regular Crocs.

Elsa - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

"I like old Humphrey Bogart movies."

I love her yellow dress and blue peep toes.

Okay, the way she accessorized her dress with a beaded handbag, quite a bit similar to Sara's, huh? Further proof of a fashion zeitgeist. (Or they might both be period purists. :))

Travis and Iris - San Mateo Fairgrounds, San Mateo

Travis: "Wearing my girlfriend's pants and things I've woven by hand. And a jacket to keep from being too chilly."
Iris: "What do I usually say? [Facetiously] - Oh yeah, I just dress really good all the time."

Though her comment was said in jest, I'm not sure she's wrong. Iris is the consummate fashionist, she looks different every time I see her and all the incarnations are extremely stylin'. In this case she has a colorful relaxed layered look that reminds me of 80s-era Vivienne Westwood. Travis with his self-knit scarf and Member's Only jacket looks a perfect complement.

Stella - Maker Faire, San Mateo

"This kind of reminds me of a sunset."

I love the one piece, especially a la the 1980s. I like how she cinched it with a big pink belt while keeping other accessories to a minimum and her shoe color neutral.

A look at those shoes.

Evie Kate and Jenna - Maker Faire, San Mateo

"This outfit, we were wearing green today. Kind of crafty diy embroidery style on it. Something summery. And Evie is wearing a dress that I made, I have a business called Tartlette and I make little girls' dresses."

I love that they're dressing in a green theme without being too matchy-matchy.

I really love Evie Kate's seersucker green jacket. Very, very cute.

Clara - Maker Faire, San Mateo

"Today because I bought a new skirt. This (skirt) is Anthropologie."

I like that she has a cheery fruit theme to her outfit. The Marimekko pear bag and the peach fabric of her skirt make me smile.

Her lovely Marimekko print tote.

A look at her shoes.

Today's theme is above the knee skirts.

Trinity - Maker Faire, San Mateo

"Individuality, creativity, reusing and recycling. Not being a cookie cutter."

I'm really into using diy to personalize one's look (her shirt and vest are pretty great).

A look at the screen printed bus on the back of her vest.

A look at her canvas boots.
