Emily - Alamo Square, SF

emily - street fashion san francisco style
"I'm inspired by people who make their own clothes and who make new clothes look old or refurbish vintage tops like this one (I just bought it right down there from my friend, Sarah) And like finding pieces like these shoes (like these were $5). This (necklace) is actually a local designer too, I can't remember who, they sell it at Indie Mart. So yeah, more expensive pieces mixed with $5 pieces."

Love her simple short black dress and how she accessorizes with a long pendant necklace and that feather printed crop top.

Nicole - Alamo Square, SF

"I take from a lot of old and make new from it. It's all about being aware of everything you see and mixing and matching. Nothing ever goes out of style, especially in this era when all different pieces can be meshed into one thing."

Nicole is a fashionist alumni from 2007. Here she wears a very short 70s-era vintage polyester dress, a waffle pattern sweater, and brown tights to make it all decent.

Ashley - Alamo Square, SF

street fashion style, san francisco
"Well I just got the dress and I haven't worn it yet. So I guess I'm kind of excited for San Francisco summer. I moved here from the east coast a year ago, so yeah I guess it's just the San Francisco weather. Because it is constantly layering and then taking off layers. That really inspires my style, living here now."

Beautiful white crochet dress and colorful huarache-style sandals.

"Just being reunited with clothing I haven't worn in a year and a half."

It's been awhile, but do you remember Ashley? I took her photo way back in April 2007. Since then she's graduated from college and lived in Korea. At least some things haven't changed - her love of floral dresses, colored tights, and black flats.

Dani - Alamo Square, SF

"This one is mostly found/ free box things. So just eclectic and what's comfortable. [In regards to this necklace:] my dad has very odd things at his house and I found this bullet and it's not alive round, so I made a necklace for it."

Flannel and lace and that diy bullet charm. Oh my! A snapshot of life in the 90s with the rosy lens of nostalgia (mine, of course).

Courtney - Alamo Square, SF

courtneyim

Love her mix of country-fied plaid sundress with lace trim and the on-trend ocelot print cardigan. I've actually taken a picture of Courtney before. At that time, she wasn't living in SF, but lucky for the City's fashionist population, she has recently joined our ranks. Welcome to the City Courtney!

Alfred - Alamo Square, SF

alfred
"I work at a custom clothing shop. It's in North Beach, called Al's Attire. We don't really have a website, since it's custom stuff. We do sell new ready-to-wear, like this [jacket] is off the shelf."

Great 3-button coat, with the buttons a bit higher than usual - virtually making the lapels nonexistent. I actually first spotted his fantastic plaid wool trousers (see how great that true blue line that runs through it), his shoes and then the entire outfit.

Christina - Alamo Square, SF

ichristina
"Bargains. The Flea Market is inspiring me."

Christina is the owner of Skirt Chaser Vintage in Santa Rosa, so it's no wonder she always looks flawless. Here she wears a great belted camel shawl coat with animal print and holds a darling clutch with gold balls. Love that this one item encompasses three fall trends: camel, animal print, and cinched waists.

"Just glamour."

Valerie looks great from head-to-toe: her hair with pincurls, her orange-red lipstick that matches the orange-red stripe on that amazing Scottish Terrier plaid patterned dress, those gorgeous brown patent leather oxfords, and yes, even her vintage mink fur coat.

Shannon - Alamo Square, SF

"Well usually I like to dress like the 50s. I bought these pants at Painted Bird. They're the only pants I really have and it's cold. So here I am. This is sort of a vintage blouse and 70s pants."

That beret is super cute, as is that Peter Pan collar embroidered blouse worn smartly with those high-waisted slightly flared jeans. This color palette and a little bit of the silhouette reminds me of the Sonia Rykiel Resort 2011 collection, which I covet.

Ally - Alamo Square, SF

imally
"I guess it's whatever I have laying around. Estate sales, I guess."

Love her hat and dress with that bigger than life coat. I like that she could be a vision from the 20s or 70s with this level of luxe style.

Ally has a thing for well-worn vintage leather shoes.

Shelby - Alamo Square Park, SF

shelby
"I think a lot of 80s, kind of like more funky. I don't know."

A tangle of necklaces, aviators too big for her face, ruched gray tank top, a thick belt and short shorts. That is to say, Shelby looks charmingly disaffected.

Maggie - Alamo Square Park, SF

maggie_as
The always lovely and talented Maggie Mason was wearing a gorgeous vintage dress (check out that fabric with the white dandelions) on a warm SF day when I ran into her in Alamo Square. And yes, Maggie's been on the site before and she's even contributed in the past. The lady has got style in spades.

Another one of her apparent super powers? Maggie looks great in photos, even when she's facing the hot sun.

Cheryl - Alamo Square Park, SF

"Well this outfit, a friend brought back for me from Thailand. It fits and it's hot and I'm pregnant, that's it."

Gorgeous simple batik cotton dress. Lovely Cheryl barefoot and pregnant in cute square sunnies that almost match her hair.

Sean and Liza - Alamo Square, SF

Sean: "Like a 1970s news reporter."
Liza: "There's a Twiggy doll and it's wearing this same dress, except it is black and white and has a red belt."

I find the fact that they are matching to be charming. My take is this: he in a Falling Down office worker way and she in her Twiggy-inspired dress.

Brown shoes to go with their brown outfits.

Jesse - Alamo Square Park, SF

"One, I committed to hanging out with the Elvises, who I need to catch up with soon. And my other friends were, "hey we're making lederhosen at our place, bring an old pair of pants, so we'll cut them up and make lederhosen." So, I was like, "cool." So I found these old pair of pants and I did the whole sequin thing with Elvis, so I'm basically Elvis Hosely, that's the whole joke. No, it's fun and after the sun came out, it a great outfit, I think."
