I find her abbreviated dress to be sweet. And I like that she wears it with a 70s-era flare (her coat) and humor (her glasses).

I like how Lauren's clothes have a 1920s silhouette, yet are thoroughly modern in construction and material. Also, this picture doesn't do her haircut justice, but her hair looks sculptural (very, very thick bangs) and is a pretty auburn to boot.

I like her blue corduroy coat and how she wears it with matching knit fingerless gloves and her dress poking out from underneath. This is a great outfit for the San Francisco weather and lifestyle (layers and sensible shoes).

"Well, this particular outfit, I would probably say my Mom's style. It's always been eclectic and unique and not something that you can find all in one store. You know - put together. I like getting them [clothes] in all different places and combining it."

I admire Nina's adeptness at layering knits. A few previous fashionists have mentioned Charlotte Gainsbourg as their inspiration, Nina didn't, but she's a good example of how to interpret Gainsbourg with an American eye.


Her skill at layering knits is most evident in this close-up. No bulk! But warmth! Texture!

"For this outfit I wanted to have all black and just one spot of color, so that's why the coat is bright yellow, but everything is black. I wanted to balance it [the black], so I wore canvas colored shoes. I take a lot of art classes and I'm really into art, so... Like this coat looks like a painting, but a digital photograph of a painting, so that's why I like it."

Her coat is Anthropologie and her layers of black (with a vest that has an abundance of buttons) add a nice contrast.

I like the pumpkin color of her coat and how her shift and coat are the same length. Jessica also mentioned that her friend Ellen is a fashion designer who made her shift. Also! There is something great about no frills shoes that make their statement by architectural form only. Which is to say, I like her shoes.

"You know it's the shoes. Today it's about the shoes. I got these yesterday and they were really cute and sparkly. I got these at Shoe Biz on Haight Street. My girlfriend and I were shopping and we both liked them so much we both bought them."

This outfit is a great transistional to Fall outfit. I like the light green knit top that she layers paired with her green short trench.

I love her hair, hair ornament, her small capelet and her brogues. She does a great job of pulling her outfit together to reference the Gibson Girls of yore.

"I don't like to look overly affected in my style, whenever I see people who do, it just sort of exhausts me. So I try to go for something that looks relaxed, but still has a certain element of my personality in it. This particular jacket was purchased for me by a friend and it costs a lot of money and they want me to wear it all the time, so I do."

I like his Diesel blazer, which I think is denim, but may be some other thick cotton material. I also like his bright blue button down, which lends an air of the 1950s to his outfit (see the snaps instead of buttons?).
