Sara - 30th Street, SF

"This outfit is inspired by late 60s New York, like the Velvet Underground."

There is something very Marianne Faithfull (see below) about Sara. It might be a studied nonchalance about her outfit and her ease in the world. Or just her rock-n-roll spirit shining through, but it works in spades. Despite what the fashion mags say, sometimes skinny trousers/jeans still look so good.

Look at her gorgeous slim lace-up booties.

Jessica and Kaitlin - Valencia Street, SF

Jessica: "The movie Ghost World."
Kaitlin: "Basically my friends, I guess. Everything around me."

I like the school girlishness of their outfits and their pendants.

A look at their shoes.

Eva - 18th Street, SF

"I'm attempting to wear colors. This is what happens when goths try to wear colors. Kind of timid about it, just a few at a time."

Love her purple coat and the silhouette.

Great spectator two-tone shoes.

Phoebe - 18th Street, SF

Local film maker Phoebe Tooke has been on fashionist before. Phoebe will be screening her Student Academy Award winning documentary Circles of Confusion at Slamdance 2009.

I love her bright yellow sweater, worn with an a-line skirt.

A look at her clunky Mary Jane's.

Joy - Valencia Street, SF

"In general, Solid Gold Dancers. And this outfit? I'm just really slouchy and hungover today."

Sometimes I like how people turn convention just a little off kilter. Here Joy is wearing a puffy jacket, but it is in a very non-traditional inky blue/violet (versus the ubiquitous black). Then I looked down and saw the fun screw pattern on her leggings. I remember when Bernard Willhelm first came upon the fashion scene and how great his colorful patterned leggings were. It was like, "Okay we're adults but we can still be playful in the way we dress." So, yeah, that was why I asked Joy if she would pose for me.

Appropriately comfy booties and a closer look at that screw pattern on her leggings.

Taking a break - Valencia Street, SF (Quick Shots)

Matt - Valencia Street, SF

"I just moved here from New York and I always dress head-to-toe in black. It's kind of the way things go."

Yay for detail on all-black coats. The collar, white stitching around the buttonholes, and buttons themselves lend a fluidness to the coat that refuses to let it be *just* a black trench. Good job Matt!

Well-worn, (sidebar: I really like how guys wear their shoes, how character is shown in the wear pattern) patent leather Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes from "3 or 4" seasons ago.

Will - Valencia Street, SF

"I guess, my friends."

I've been interested in how some guys understand proportion in clothes. It makes everything look so much better, even if their clothes aren't flashy, something about how their clothes are worn stands out from the average guy. Part of the reason why I was excited to take Will's photo is because he doesn't necessarily look metro, but looks very well put together.

Look how his gray/off black jeans are slim cut and just ease into those brown booties.

Chris - Market Street, SF

"I like fur."

I've been recommending shawl necklines on men sweaters ever since May, so to see it worn with shearling is surprising and cool. I like clothing combos that are surprising. His jean wash is also not popular now (so to my eyes looks so cool), it probably means it'll be popular in about 6 months.

I really like his ankle boots, I think if you're a guy and you don't have a pair of lace-up ankle boots, you definitely need some. In an uncertain time, this is something I feel certain of.

Maggie - Nob Hill, SF

Maggie looks great in her pink print sundress and cardigan. Of course, you've seen Maggie before, friend of fashioni.st, she has also contributed to the site.

Her blue tights are well paired with these collapsible-looking leather boots.

Caitlin - Fillmore Street, SF

"I would say my style is inspired by fall, friends, my husband's thrift store finds, simple sophistication, mixing vintage, inexpensive pieces with girly investment pieces."

I love her layers of lace, and functional cotton, everything a little rumpled and sexy. If I could learn how to dress this way consistently, I totally would.

I'm coveting these patent leather ankle boots.

Cameron - Fillmore Street, SF

"And what inspires my style is... I guess, London Street Fashion."

Great hair, great glasses, great boots and clothes that fit perfectly, what more could one ask for?

A look at his great boots and how he wears his jeans so they look almost rosette-esque.

Sally - Bush Street, SF

"Well this outfit, it's not really my style, but it works because I can wear flats during the day and it's casual. And I have stilettos in my purse and I'm gonna put them on at 7 o'clock and it's a party dress."

I love how she is wearing a basic black dress and accessorizes it for day to evening wear. Sally has an eye for design being the powerhouse behind sallyTV.

Check out the detail on her stockings, much like Margaret's.

Peeptoes with touches of metallic colors, worn mostly for their functionality.

Kimberly - Fillmore Street, SF

"Just comfort, it was a nice day. Just a dress with boots."

Sometimes a well-fitting shirt dress with boots is all you need.

Kelly - Dolores Park, SF

"It changes day-to-day. Today I was going for a sharp paramilitary look. I'm on my own out in the world, so I just felt like being a little sharper."

I was taken by the fact that Kelly looked so ready to kick some sh*t and that contrasted with the nice weather of the day. Her pants also have a shimmery sheen, so they caught in the light, making me curious to her outfit underneath. My curiosity was outweighed by self preservation, so I didn't have an opportunity to ask her. Notice that despite her paramilitary regalia, Kelly is wearing large rose tinted sunglasses? Proving that even those who are (dressing) tough want to look at the world optimistically.

Black stern looking boots.

Mauricio - 18th Street, SF

"My style is kind of a folky bohemian."

I like his knit scarf as tie worn with his zip-up cardigan. There is also a nice earthiness in his choice of brown.

A look at his squared-off shoes.
